Super Saturday Coaching Day
We love a coaching day ??? and today we have had a #SuperSaturday with visiting coach Ellie Bee of Lace City Chorus

Working on some new songs ??? and enjoying fabulous cakes as usual!

Ellie returned last Tuesday to put us through our paces again.

For those who don't know Ellie, she leads on musical development and strategy, chairs the Music Team and represents the chorus at regional meetings. Ellie has been a member of Lace City Chorus since the age of 14. She was introduced to barbershop by her school teacher, and former Lace City director Glenn Chaney. Having been appointed as Interim Music Director .in May 2020, Ellie accepted the role permanently in April 2021.

She has a huge amount of experience and talent and has achieved great things both regionally and internationally. She has an impressive track record of quartet success and is a previous Rising Star champion, regional gold medallist and has earned a top 15 International placement. She has competed as a member of Lace City, winning six gold medals and competing internationally.

Rhapsody had a large contingent at the recent LABBS Education Day
A large contingent of Rhapsody chorus members took part in the recent LABBS education day in Coventry.

As well as increasing their knowledge of how to do well in contest, the education provided will also help them to become better performers in general and increase their understanding of how to improve as musicians, singers and performers.

An excellent time was had by all and they have returned to rehearsals with a wealth of new ideas.

Christmas sing out at Dobbies Garden Centre
What a great time we had at Dobbies Peterborough today entertaining Christmas shoppers and lunchtime visitors to the restaurant. Santa gave us a friendly wave and our new red scarves were set off fabulously by the Poinsettia’s that surrounded us. ?? This was just one of the exciting events we have covered this Christmas.

'Let us entertain you' - Charity event at St. Mary's Church, Wansford
When fellow member Rhiannon Nally asked if we could perform at a concert in aid of St. Mary's church at Wansford, it was rather short notice.

But it didn't stop us pulling together a scratch chorus of just 15 singers, who, without a director, entertained the audience with 4 songs.

It was a fabulous fun evening with comedy, magic and music. We were glad to be able to take part.

Expert coaching with Ellie Blakeby
The countdown to 2023 LABBS convention is on!

In September, we spent an excellent day of coaching with Ellie Blakeby, Musical Director of Lace City chorus.

Ellie leads on musical development and strategy, chairs the Music Team and represents the chorus at regional meetings.

With those credentials how could it fail to be anything other than a fantastic day.  The energy and sound in the chorus was amazing as Ellie took us to a new level. She is a real star and got us all doing what she wanted with just a few phrases and key visuals ?.

Well done to the chorus for their commitment and for keeping the energy going all day in sweaty weather and with thundering rain to contend with.

The cakes helped!!!

Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod

Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod
Another month, and another competition!

We felt so privileged to compete in the  Llangollen Eisteddfod this year, taking part against performers from around the world.. There were 16 choirs in our group, so the competition was very strong.

There was a fantastic atmosphere around the arena, with hundreds of people, many in national costume, enjoying the surroundings.

As well as competing, we had two occasions to sing on the outside stages.  Sadly, the second slot had to be abandoned due to rain, thunder and lightning of biblical proportions. But it didn't dampen our sprits and further singing took place under cover.

North Northampton Music Festival

North Northampton Music Festival
Back in June Rhapsody bagged the 1st prize in the Barbershop category at the North Northamptonshire Music Festival.

Thanks must go to our Co-directors, Anna and Helen.  This photograph features Helen who conducted 'Almost Like Being in Love'.  Anna had the opportunity to sing.

The adjudicator, Paul Phoenix (Ex member of the King's Singers) commented that this event encapsulated the true meaning of 'Music Festival' i.e. a celebration of talent in a truly supportive atmosphere, which never felt competitive.

A fabulous experience giving us confidence for our forthcoming appearance at the Llangollen Eisteddfod.

We all dressed up in red, white and blue for this week's rehearsal in recognition of the forthcoming Coronation weekend.

We wish everyone a fabulous time, whatever you are doing.

You have to admit we all look very smart!

Three cheers to King Charles the third.

Oundle Festival of Music and Drama
Lots to celebrate from our day out at Oundle Festival of Music & Drama festival yesterday.

As well as having some newer members join us on the risers, it was our Co Director Anna’s first time as MD at a competition too! That deserves a #woohoo??????

PLUS we were really pleased with our performance, got some fantastic feedback and gained second place in our class, just one point behind the winners. So we offer our congratulations to Ouse Valley Chorus on their excellent performance.

So a really good day for both Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers AND British Association of Barbershop Singers too. #LABBS and #BABS

The Rose And Crown At Oundle provided good hospitality afterwards and a chance to sing with some of the chaps from Huntingdon too. ???

LABBS convention in Bournemouth - 'Didn't we do well?'

LABBS convention in Bournemouth - 'Didn't we do well?'

Woo hoo! We did it! Rhapsody’s best ever Convention score.
72.2 per cent which equates to a Sweet Adelines score of 578 (10 points higher than our previous best). Not to mention 9th out of 25 choruses in the all important 'Music' category.

We are all proud to be part of this group of amazing ladies, performing at Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers Convention 2022 at the Bournemouth International Centre

Such a great experience.

We also owe debt of gratitude to Master Director, Glenn Chaney, for coaching us and taking us to Convention, following the resignation of our previous director in July.

Rhapsody is officially back on track!

Look for details of our 'Love to Sing' course, you could be taking part in Convention in Harrogate next October.
